A Word from the President
Hej alla,
The Scandinavian Pre-Oscar Party 2014 turned out to be an amazing evening !!
Thanks to our fantastic sponsors and partners for making this event happen and also to our wonderful SACC-LA board members, marketing managers and volunteers who dedicated their time and passion creating this magical evening. Fun to see so many familiar and also new faces at the event, thank you all for attending and I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did !!
The “Twin Visions” exhibition by two truly talented artists was an amazing extra addition to our event and we are so grateful to Jack Rutberg for hosting us at his extraordinary fine arts gallery.
Our member and main sponsor of the evening was Cutter’s Pizza and it was nice that the two Swedish brothers and owners of Cutter’s Pizza could also attend and enjoy the evening with all of us. It is a rare treat to now have Swedish Pizza in Los Angeles.
We are always very proud to be working with so many great businesses and partners. Please contact us if you need additional information as we happily want you to be able to get in touch and use everything from their services, food, drinks, candy to beautiful jewelry and arts plus much more.
The evening’s red carpet pictures will be up on our Facebook page over the weekend and lots of more pictures will be posted through out the next week on our website and social networks. You can also read more about the event in the Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet.
Sending lots of good luck wishes to all our Scandinavian Oscar nominees on Sunday !!
Happy weekend !! Gudrun
The Scandinavian Pre-Oscar Party 2014 27th of February
The Scandinavian Pre-Oscar Party 2014 turned out to be a great success and we are so happy that so many known and new faces joined us! Over 300 guests came to celebrate Scandinavian film and the Oscars at Jack Rutberg Fine Arts Gallery. After the guests had arrived and had their picture taken on the red carpet they entered the gallery and enjoyed a lovely evening of mingling and nibbling on the Swedish inspired hors d’oeuvres that were served.

Swedish Medal Record in the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014
The Swedish Ice Hockey team
This year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi has gone down in history for Sweden. The Swedish team collected 15 medals in Sochi, including two gold medals, seven silver medals and six bronze medals, which is a record. It also put us in ninth place in the total medal league for this year’s Olympics. Our latest and final medal came in the mens ice hockey final, the last day of the Olympics, when our Swedish heroes won the silver medal after an exciting game against Canada.

Olsons Delicatessen
Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday or Fettisdagen
4th of March
Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday or Fettisdagen as it is called in Sweden, occurs on Tuesday the 4th of March. In Sweden and in the rest of Scandinavia, many people celebrate Mardi Gras by eating the famous Shrovetide bun (in Swedish “Semla” or “Fastlagsbulle”). This pastry consists of a cardamom-spiced wheat bun filled with almond paste and topped with whipped cream, and is often enjoyed in combination with warm milk.
In Sweden, you can buy Shrovetide buns from shortly after Christmas until Easter. Luckily, we don’t have to be located in Scandinavia in order to get hold of this delicacy in time for Mardi Gras. The Scandinavian food store Olsons Scandinavian Delicatessen offers home baked Shrovetide buns as well as many other traditional Scandinavian foods, and takes us right back to the heavenly tastes of Scandinavia.
Olsons Scandinavian Delicatessen is located on 5660 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, and has been operating here since 1948 and has served as one of the few places in Los Angeles where Scandinavians have been able to get their favorite things. In may of 2013 it was bought by Christian Kneedler, a long time resident and Swede.
Besides the seasonal availibilty of Semla, which is made by Swedcakes, Olsons also offer Scandinavian deli products such as skagenrora, different kind of cheese and meatballs. There are a lot of things going on in this historical store. Just recently Olsons started a collaboration with Gottegrisar who provides Swedish bulk candy. We are also adding a cafe in the near future that will serve Scandinavian and other specialties.
What: Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/”Fettisdagen” Where: Olsons Delicatessen, 5660 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90019, see map. When: Tuesday, March 4
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!
