A Word from the Presidents

Hej Alla

Finally Friday, and we can… finally share with all of you that the winner of this years Eliason Merit Award is the multi and super talented Steve Angelo !!

We are so very proud to be able to give this award to such a creative talent as Mr. Angelo.  He is of course, up until recently, best known as one of the trio from Swedish House Mafia, but Mr. Angelo is also so much more.  He is managing and helping other artists via his record and management company, Size Records and has non-profit organization called Size Foundation, which aims to empower children and youth through education.  We are thrilled and yes, this will be the party of the decade !!

This week, we are also hosting the TEKO delegation from Sweden, which is having a few productive and hopefully fun educational days in Los Angeles. Will write more about this next week.  We are also looking forward to “Sweden Happy Hour “ at this years Culture Collide in mid October.  This event is definitely worth attending to find out who is on the cutting edge on the music scene and will be next year’s super star.

Wishing all of you a fabulous weekend !!

Gudrun Giddings
President of SACC-LA

Kära Vänner,

We are excited to announce that we now have a Foundation.  SACC-LA has been growing, expanding, with more and more opportunities so we will now have a Foundation to take advantage of opportunities and further expand the scope of what we can do.

The Foundation was actually created some time ago but has been mostly inactive until now.  We are now ramping up operations and have cool things on the horizon.  We will keep you updated on the activities of this new venture.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Kim H. Swartz

President of SACC-LA Foundation

ELIASON MERIT AWARD 2013
Award Winner Announcement – Steve Angello

#Eliason2013

2013 Eliason Merit Award Winner – Steve Angello

We are beyond excited to announce that the Swedish House Music icon Steve Angello will receive the Eliason Merit Award 2013.  The winner came out of an unanimous decision by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles’ Board of Directors.  Steve Angello receives the award for his persistent musical innovation that has put Sweden in the international spotlight and helped strengthen the relations between The United States and Sweden.

”To receive a price like this is a great honor,” says Steve Angello and continues, “When I heard that I was given a price for strengthening the Swedish-American relations it put a smile on my face. I have never gone in to any of these adventures for being awarded, it’s truly passion!  When something like this happens you feel powered to go further and work harder and therefore it means a great deal to me and the people on this journey supporting my cause and adventure! Thank you so much for the blessing and boost of power!”

The red carpet event will take place at the W Hollywood Hotel’s famous rooftop with unparalleled views of Los Angeles.  The award ceremony will feature top performances, including a celebrity-packed after party in Steve Angello’s honor.  More details regarding the evening and the entertainment will be announced soon so stay tuned.

Culture Collide 2013
Sweden Happy Hour

We are proud to, once again, co-promote FILTER Magazine’s forth annual Culture Collide Festival that will return to Los Angeles this October 10-12, bringing 3 days of incredible music, art, film and more to Echo Park.  As one of the most buzzed about festivals of the fall season, Culture Collide will welcome performances by some of our favorite international artists listed here.

”Sweden Happy Hour” is a popular feature during the event where fresh Swedish music is presented.  Niki & The Dove, Icona Pop and Laleh are examples previous Swedish performers during the festival and this year Sweden is represented by The Deer Tracks, Like Swimming and Frida Sundemo.  They will perform during “Sweden Happy Hour” on Friday October 11th and they also have their own slots during the festival, so check out the schedule.

What: Sweden Happy Hour
When: Friday October 11th at 4pm – 6pm.
Where: Taix on 1911 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90026. See map here
Price: $30 for a 3-day wristband.
Tickets: Avilable for purchase at Ticketfly

The Deer Tracks‘s songs often stride fearlessly into the forest primeval armed with a stuttering beat and a rattling arsenal of percussion.  Somehow they blend them all together with other natural found sounds and deliberately lo-fi digital artefacts that add bristles and grit to their relentless melodies.

The music by Like Swimming is made out of acoustic indie pop with an electronic touch, always with the sweetest melodies and rhythms and with a slice of Swedish accent on every word.

Frida Sundemo is creating undefinable pearls of pop.  Easy to receive, hard to forget, wrapped with love.

Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake live on Hollywood Boulevard

With an office in Hollywood/West Hollywood we are located in the center of the entertainment capital of the world.  Some days that is more obvious than ever.  For example last Monday and Tuesday when a block of Hollywood Boulevard was shut down because of the free summer concerts featuring Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake.  Anyone who did not register for the free tickets in time could still line the sidewalks to hear the performances.

September 23rd. Watch Paul McCartney’s live set on Hollywood Boulevard as part of the Jimmy Kimmel Live concert series.

September 24th. Watch Justin Timberlake’s live set on Hollywood Boulevard as part of the Jimmy Kimmel Live concert series.

Membership Spotlight

Bad Taste Records

Bad Taste Records was founded in 1992 and has evolved steadily throughout the years.  Today it encompasses not only a record label, but a booking agency (Bad Taste Events), synch licensing department (Feeble Music) and artist management arm (OBA Management) and hence the term Bad Taste Empire is preferred when referring to the company as a whole.  It is owned by SACC-LA board member Björn Barnekow and Jonas Nilsson.

Our headquarter is still in Lund, Sweden but we recently opened an office in Stockholm as well.  We also have an ancillary office in Santa Monica and spend a fair amount of time working from there.  The main reason for this is Feeble Music.  Through Feeble we represent thousands of artists, mainly Scandinavian, for Film, TV and video game licensing and with LA being the hub of the Film/TV industry it’s imperative that we have a presence here.  Music placements from our catalog include shows like True Blood, CSI: NY, Chuck and Justiefied to name a few, with countless placements in ads, films and video games as well.  Among recent highlights count the inclusion of the song ”Dance” by Danko Jones in the movie Kick-Ass 2.  It was also featured on the soundtrack and in the international trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc6tL8cd9KQ

On the label side we try to limit the number of releases to 3-5 albums a year to be able to spend more time on each individual release.  Highlights include several top 5 releases in Sweden and chart positions in most European territories plus Canada.

Bad Taste Events on the other hand is now one of the biggest independent gig promoters in Sweden.  We have promoted shows for close to 15 years and work with all the festivals in the Nordic countries, representing artists like Wiz Khalifa, NOFX, Mac Miller, ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown and many more in Scandinavia.  We also promote Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, the duo behind hits like Thrift Shop and Can’t Hold Us, and recently upgraded their Stockholm show to the Ericsson Globe.

OBA Management or One Big Adventure in less corporate terms is our latest endeavour.  We currently have three artists signed to the management side of the company – Danko Jones, Timbuktu and Chords.  We also represent highly esteemed sport journalist Erik Niva.  Danko Jones just finished up a tour of North America as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival along the likes of Alice In Chains, Jane’s Addiction, Coheed and Cambria and many more.  Timbuktu and Chords are both working on new material.

Trying to establish our management clients on the US market is another big priority for the Santa Monica office and with Danko Jones in particular we are seeing a lot of progress with big tours, big synchs and a recent Top 30 song on American Rock Radio.
