SACC-LA will welcome Team Sweden in Santa Monica on July 26th. Sweden’s Minister for Health Care, Public Health and Sport, Gabriel Wikström, will attend the event to show his support for Special Olympics’ work to ensure that all people have the opportunity to live an active and socially enriched life through sport.

Of course I will be in Los Angeles to support Sweden during the largest sport event of the year. Sport plays a valuable and inclusive role, where the focus is on people’s abilities and opportunities. As a group, people with intellectual disabilities are unfortunately often affected by isolation, passivity and mental health problems, and subject to prejudices. That is why it is so important to promote an event that specifically addresses these issues. I believe in the unifying power of sports and I also share Special Olympics’ conviction that sport leads to better health and joy for all people,” says Gabriel Wikström, Swedish Minister for Health Care, Public Health and Sport.
