A SACC-LA Exclusive Interview with Magnus Lygdbäck
1. How did you start your career within health and fitness, and when and how did you start working with your first celebrity?
I started almost 21 years ago in Stockholm at a gym called Trim Life. I Can’t remember which celebrity I started working with but the Swedish artist E-type was one of my first ones.
2. Have you always wanted a career within wellness and fitness?
No, I actually thought about becoming a doctor, but I realized though that I didn’t want to spend my days in an office.
3. What is the most common mistake people make when wanting to get in shape?
Two things. (1) Starting off too extreme. People many times start eating super clean without any room for balance, the same goes for training. Don’t start with six days a week, do three and slowly ramp it up. (2) Relying on motivation too much. Motivation comes and goes, what you need is discipline! Commit to a few times a week and stick to it!
4. If you can recommend only one tool/item for home-workouts which one would you recommend?
TRX band.
5. What is your best tip to find the motivation to workout and how often do you recommend working out?
Don’t rely on motivation alone, then you will fail. It’s all about discipline. Never do less than three times a week, never more than six. The sweet spot is around five times a week.
6. What is your favorite pre/post-workout snack?
Pre: a cup of Gevalia (Swedish coffee) or two. Post: sushi.
7. When helping people get in shape, what do you experience people struggle the most with, the workout routine or the diet?
Both, but the diet is more complex though.
8. Can you recommend one of your favorite places or landmarks, a “must-see” in LA for our readers to visit on their next trip?
There are so many things to see in LA. I love going to a hockey game at the Staples Center, and Korean BBQ in K-town is pretty awesome as well!
9. What do you love the most about your job?
That I get to be a part of someone’s journey to a better, healthier, and happier life. From darkness to light.
